Job Description:
The Controller will oversee all accounting and reporting functions, providing strategic financial leadership and ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent reporting. This individual will own the financial close process, manage the accounting function, and work alongside leadership to drive profitable growth. The role requires both hands-on technical ability and the strategic mindset to fill many of the responsibilities typically held by a CFO.
Responsibilities:
Oversee accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll, and general ledger management. Prepare, analyze, and distribute timely monthly and quarterly financial statements.
Maintain and optimize Sage Intacct for project-level and corporate-level financial insight. Manage job cost accounting, WIP, and percent-complete reporting.
Implement and maintain financial controls, policies, and reporting systems.
Partner closely with project managers and executives to support decision-making and profitability.
Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team, creating scalable systems for growth.
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
Understand percentage billing/ AIA billing
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA, CMA or CCIFP preferred).
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP accounting.
Proficiency with Sage Intacct required.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving business needs.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ambition to grow into an executive role.
