Reporting directly to the CFO who is nearing retirement, the Controller plays a vital role in managing the financial and accounting operations of the Cooperative, its subsidiaries, and managed companies. They are responsible for ensuring efficient financial management to achieve corporate objectives while minimizing fiscal exposure and ensuring the availability of funds for continuous operation.
The Controller oversees monthly closeout activities and the preparation of financial statements for all managed companies and other entities as directed. Additionally, they assist in managing and supervising the employees involved in budgeting, finance, and accounting work to support organizational programs. The role requires strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and leadership skills to drive strategic financial decision-making and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
1. Prepare, oversee the preparation, and post journal entries for the general ledger for all companies
2. Assist and oversee accounts payable functions
3. Assist and oversee plant accounting and inventory functions
4. Assist in coordinating the closing of accounts payable, payroll, transportation, work order, and fixed assets systems
5. Oversee the preparation and distribution of department actual as compared to budget reports
6. Oversee the preparation of monthly sales tax reports and of quarterly franchise tax remittance
7. Assist and oversee the preparation of 1099 reports for all companies
8. Assist in the preparation of all books and documents for the Cooperative Annual Audit, subsidiary audits, and other entities under contract with the Cooperative
9. Assist with preparation of Form 7 and subsidiary financial statements
10. Assist with calculation of PCRF as necessary
11. Perform annual patronage capital allocation and patronage capital retirement as needed
12. Oversee preparation of unclaimed property reports and maintenance of unclaimed property records
13. Oversee distribution and reconciliation of escheat funds
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field
CPA certification preferred
NRECA Supervision Management Certificate required. In the absence of the NRECA Supervision Management Certificate, continued participation in the Certificate training program is required.
Experience in an electric cooperative organization preferred
Minimum of 2 years of management experience supervising others
Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal control concepts, and computerized accounting systems
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws relating to the administration and management of electrical distribution systems and related subsidiary operations
Experience in managing financial operations and preparing financial statements
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial software and tools
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
